It is really reasonable to expect people to pay student laons if?
First, this reminded me of the church in Maine that wanted to filed suit against new lockdowns, which hadn't occurred. Justice Breyer chose not to hear that case. Second, what will work much better is people getting vaccinated, and states enacting vaccine passports. Alongside the late summer COVID surge, we are seeing a surge in new vaccinations. 70% of American adults have had at least one vaccine injection. Third, one of the memes that frustrated me during the pandemic was the "see, the federal government can fund XYZ, we just didn't want to all along." In reality, we have been burning through extraordinary amounts of money for the past year and a half. It is not sustainable. Fourth, unemployment rates took a short term surge, but are now fairly low. Let's not pretend like there aren't programs to help people with student loans who are actually out of work. They may be imperfect, but if there are issues, let's fix those, rather than continuing blanket forbearance. I want to be clear that I am not unsympathetic toward the people who genuinely cannot repay their loans, but there is no evidence that this is the case for the vast majority of people.
