Why dont we make social security, Medicare, Medicaid, and?
We dont make these programs optional because they are safety nets for everyone. If we made them optional and you lost your money in a bad investment, and then became disabled who would take care of you? You would have opted out of the government programs designed to do that, would we then just let you be homeless and hungry? Not everyone is all that savvy with their money, many might opt out thinking they are better at investing than they really are, then the government would be faced with the dilemma of what to do with destitute people who opted out of the government programs. Social security and other government programs arent designed for people to get rich, they are primarily designed to help those who havent or cant save for themselves. They are supposed to supplement your own savings, and investments.
