It may serve that purpose as well - in fact, I think it is almost certain that unemployment would be greater were it not for PPP. However, Democrats had a choice: Help millions of people while also artificially lowering the unemployment numbers and potentially helping the presidentor letting millions of people crash into poverty, homelessness, and ruin, while also increasing the prevalence of Covid-19 by preventing people from sheltering in the home they just lost. So Democrats did the right thing, and pushed PPP through, even though it might inadvertently help their political opponents. Heres the truth: Democrats actually give a crap about you. Theyre far from perfect. But the laws they pass, the policies they advocate for, and the judges they nominate lead to better outcomes for everyone but the very wealthy. I like to ask people a simple question to decide who they should vote for: Do you own a yacht? Because there are two kinds of Americans: Yachties and Nachties. Youre a nachty. So am I. If youre a Nachty, vote for someone who doesnt think youre beneath them. Vote for a Democrat. Theyre going to fight for you if you cant afford healthcare, or college, or if youre an immigrant, or LGBTQ+, or not a rich cis white man. Youll be better off in the long term. However, if you own a yacht, youre gonna want to vote for a Republican. Theyre going to lower your taxes so much that youll be able to hoard your millions or billions. This will result in the deaths of thousands of additional poor people who cant afford healthcare, but damn Ibiza is lovely this time of year. This will result in asylum seekers being locked into cages and a few of them dying, but have you seen Tahiti? This will result in trans people being kicked out of the military against the recommendation of the people who run the military, but my goodness you just have to go to Marthas Vineyard. This will result in black lives being devalued to the point where they can be slaughtered in the street by a police officer and then blamed for it, but Miami is just so amazing in the winter.
