What do I do?

File for unemployment. This is exactly the situation its made for. I'm betting he's trying to keep him unemployment insurance cost down at your expense. An advance won't replace the money your losing like unemployment does. It's taking money you have yet to earn to replace money you can't make through no fault of your own. This is no benefit to you and will put you at a financial disadvantage. Band together with as many coworkers as you can and say you were unable to accommodate his request due to financial reasons. Preferably after filing for unemployment. The only way this would be reasonable is if you get a written agreement for him to pay you your normal wages until business resumes with no payback needed.
